Job Description :
Locum Gastroenterologist needed to start ASAP and work ongoing near Long View, NC.
- Looking full time providers to provide 24 hour coverage.
- Onsite shift coverage will be Monday- Friday 8am-5pm.
- Call coverage 5pm-8am Monday-Friday.
- Weekend call starting at 5pm and ending Monday at 8am.
- Call Type: Beeper.
- Call Ratio: 1:3.
- Practice Settings: Inpatient.
- Preferred Specialty Skills: Upper GI endoscopy (with biopsy, with foreign body removal, with fulguration of bleeder (cautery vs. laser), With injection of varices), ERCP (diagnostic, therapeutic) With PEG, Esophageal dilatation/manometry, Esophageal manometry interpretation, Small Bowel biopsy, Lower GI endoscopy, Sigmoidoscopy (Flexible, Rigid) Colonoscopy (with biopsy, with excision of polyp), Endoscopic ultrasound (EUS), Liver biopsy, Insertion/management of Seng taken/Blakemore tube.
- Fellowship Preferred.
- BLS.
- Licensed in NC only.
- EMR: Athena and Cerner.
- Credentialing: Expedited privileges available for clean history.
- $500 referral bonus received for any referral who works 30 days.
- $Competitive Rate weeknight call Premium if called in, Weekend Call equals 6 Regular Hours Per Day Premium When Called In.

On-Call Requirements:
- Physicians don’t need to stay onsite unless a situation requires their presence. No charges for callback hours if the physician stays onsite voluntarily without being needed.
Situations Requiring On-Call GI Physician:
- Emergent Endoscopic Procedures (e.g., endoscopy, colonoscopy) for critical patients.
- Gastrointestinal Bleeding needing urgent intervention.
- Bowel Obstructions/Perforations requiring immediate care.
- Consultations from the ED or other specialists for GI emergencies (e.g., pancreatitis, liver failure).
- Post-Op Complications like leaks, infections, or surgical issues.
Physician Oversight:
- No need to oversee routine care by non-GI specialists unless it involves GI-related emergencies.
- Required to manage GI-specific conditions but not general medical issues unless necessary.
Call Back Hour Documentation:
- Physicians must log call back hours with detailed notes for validation via EHR.
- Phone consultations and medical record reviews don’t count as call back hours.
Typical Call Back Durations:
- GI Bleeding Consultation: <90 mins
- Endoscopic Procedure: 1-2 hrs
- GI Obstruction/Perforation: Up to 2 hrs
- Post-Op GI Care: Varies, usually <3 hrs
